July’s episode of Common Sense with Kwanza Jones had several new insights into life and human behavior, a lot of which should really be common sense, but are not. She talked about making space in your life, taking out time for yourself, and most importantly, how optics can influence your life.
Read on to find out some of the insights she shared with the Boost Friends community.
There’s Always Space
One of the main things Kwanza talked about was that there is always space in life, even when you don’t think there is. Case in point: her own closet. She has combined hanging rods with hooks to ensure that she can hang 15+ towels in there, while without the hooks there was only room for 4. What this goes to show is that when you see things differently, there is always room you can make for the things that matter to you.
It doesn’t matter what the established norm is: people don’t normally use both hangers and hooks, but if it works for you, that’s all that really matters. Broaden the horizons of your thinking, and figure out a way in which YOU can include the things that matter to you.

Make Time For Yourself
The next bit of advice that Kwanza shared was that every day, you should take out the time to relax and reflect. It doesn’t have to be something massive like taking a vacation to Hawaii or going on a shopping spree. There are so many little things that you can do that are just yours. Take out a few minutes every day no matter what, to do what relaxes you, and make sure that you stick to it.
This little thing could be anything. For Kwanza, it is writing her diary while she is in the bath. For you, it could be going for a run, reading a book, or perhaps taking ballet lessons. Whatever it is, use that time to reflect on your day, and see how productive you were. After all, the only person who’s in this with you is yourself. So love yourself, and surround yourself with all the things that remind you that you are loved, that you matter, and that boost you to achieve your goals in life.
Keep Your Priorities Visible
If you were to go to your fridge right now and open it, the only things you’d see are the ones kept in the front. To see the things at the back, you’d have to remove those at the front, and this same principle applies to life too. Whatever it is that matters to you, keep it visible, and never lose sight of your goals and dreams. Maybe you want to be an astronaut. Maybe you just want to help other people live their lives better. Either way, always keep your goals in sight, because that’s how you keep reminding yourself of what really matters.
Lastly, Kwanza talked about how every person is a wave, and they have the capacity to make waves in someone else’s life, whether or not they realize it. You never know how your actions can impact someone’s life and brighten their day, so keep that in mind the next time you meet anyone.
