What fuels your power?
Hey Love,
Lately, I’ve been thinking about what it means to have real power. It’s not about what you can do on your own or standing at the top alone. Real power is about using your strengths to uplift others. It’s about using your resources to make something bigger than yourself.
That’s why I live by my motto: “Own your power. Live your purpose. Be of service.”
Owning your power means knowing you already have what it takes to make an impact. Living your purpose means leaning into that power and turning it into action. And being of service is about lifting others as you rise. You don’t have to donate money to make a difference. Sometimes, your greatest gift comes from how you show up, how you listen, and how you connect.
In the video clip below, I talk about where real power comes from.
Since the last edition of the Kwanza Jones Chronicles, there’s been a lot of movement, growth, and connection. This October edition celebrates moments that remind me of how much more powerful we are when we move together.
- Legacy takes work. And at the Apollo Theater, that legacy is alive, evolving, and expanding. As a board member, long-time supporter, and Amateur Night winner, I’m proud to continue championing the Apollo Theater’s mission of shaping culture and community for the next 91 years and beyond. I recently visited the Apollo Theater as it undergoes a historic renovation and expansion. Standing on that sacred ground where history was made—and is being built again—reminded me of what it means to be of service through culture and community. From historic performances to a new era of innovation and expansion, the Apollo Theater remains a living symbol of what happens when art, access, and action come together. Watch this space to see how you can be part of the experience.

- José and I are excited to share that we’re making an investment in The Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law, dedicated to expanding opportunity, equity, and service. When I was a student in Cardozo’s Mediation Clinic, I learned what it truly means to turn theory into action. That’s why this investment matters. Through the Kwanza Jones & José E. Feliciano Program for Clinical Education, we’re helping prepare the next generation of advocates and changemakers to serve their communities and create lasting impact. This investment is one more way we’re building bridges, breaking barriers, and boosting humanity.
- At the NAIC Amplifying Alts Forum, José and I joined Robert L. Greene, Senior Managing Director at NAIC, for a fireside chat. We had a conversation about what it means to truly lead with purpose, create access, and serve others through action and intention. José and I felt honored to have such world-boosting conversations among friends and changemakers. Here are highlights from the event:
- Sometimes, being of service is about pushing others to be better and letting them know that they’ve got what it takes to keep going. That’s why I’m sharing “Hey Boost Friend (Energy Uplifting Edit)” as the music boost for this month. It’s about lifting others up and that’s all we really need to build a better future together. After all, no one ever succeeds alone. So, why not be the boost for others so they can climb up the ladder with you?

Remember, every act of service creates a ripple effect. So, think about one thing you can do today that will cost you nothing. Maybe it’s a smile. Maybe it’s reposting a friend’s social post to amplify impact. Or maybe it’s listening to someone so that they feel heard. Have you decided what to do? Now, go and do it.

Who loves you? I do!
Bye for now,
Upcoming: Next month, we’ll be looking at the power of gratitude and the mindset that fuels it—abundance. When you focus on what you have, not what you lack, you open yourself up to more joy, more connection, and more possibilities. Stay tuned!
