Women Founders Network: 8th Annual Fast Pitch Event
It’s no secret that we’ve seen a major boost in women-owned businesses over the past few years. However, women still only receive just 7% of venture funds for their startups. Unfortunately, we don’t all start at the same place. That’s why our fearless leader Kwanza Jones invests in equity and works to level the playing field.
On October 27th, at the Women Founders Network 2020 Fast Pitch Virtual event, Kwanza discussed the importance of being actively involved in conversations about access and inclusion, especially for women founders. She emphasized how using your voice, time, talents, and resources can create real change.
The key message was about owning your power—recognizing and embracing the fact that you have power—and using it purposefully to live your purpose and be of service to others. Kwanza encouraged women founders to confidently assert their value, especially when it comes to negotiations. Being of service means understanding the value you bring to your investors, community, and clients, and not being afraid to voice it, even if that involves negotiation. Ultimately, it’s about showing up, knowing your worth, and contributing meaningfully to the conversations that shape the future.
At the event, 5 top female founders pitched to win a money boost of over $40,000 in cash prizes and $135,000 in professional services.
