How To Maintain Your Greatness In Times of Uncertainty
By Team Kwanza Jones
This year has been a rollercoaster. Since the start of 2022, it's been one thing after another. From the war in Ukraine to the mass shootings happening so frequently, and the U.S. Supreme Court overturning the constitutional right to an abortion, it feels like we're all just trying to keep our heads above water.
We saw the news about the shooting at Uvalde. 19 students and 2 teachers were murdered while many others were left wounded. Today, as we write this, there have been over 300 reported shootings in the US this year. And it's not even the end of the year yet.
We saw the Supreme Court overturn Roe V. Wade, taking away the rights of a woman to make decisions about her own body. A lot of us are saddened and scared about how this could continue to be a slippery slope of dismantling women’s rights.
We also saw Russia invade Ukraine. Since then, there have been over 12 million people who have fled their homes and seven million who are still thought to be displaced inside Ukraine. The war has caused a lot of death, pain, and misery.
We know it's been a tough year. We know it has not been easy. But can we have one moment please? Can we pause and take a DEEP BREATH? Can we just hold on and make it through? Can we all come together and help make the world shine just a bit brighter? Yes, we can! Our collective efforts must be SUPERCHARGED®. We must boost each other. So, for this reason, our Boss Queen, Kwanza Jones has a SUPERCHARGED boost for you:
What To Do In Times Of Uncertainty And Crisis
Check-in with yourself
Think about where you are in your mind. Make sure you are aware of what is happening with you in your mind. Think about how it’s impacting what you’re doing, the actions you’re taking, and how you’re feeling. Try to do this twice a day. First thing in the morning and then, right before you go to bed. Take a moment to reflect on that and don’t lose sight of it. This gives you an opportunity to make sure you’re always checking in with you.
Take a deep breath. Inhale. Exhale. Inhale. Exhale. As you do this, know that you are not alone in this time of uncertainty. Know that this crisis, like every other one that came before it, will pass. Take a moment to do that and you’ll notice the stillness it brings. It will take you less than a minute, but you can do it for a longer period if you want. With this quick exercise, you’ll realize that you can afford to take a moment. You can afford to breathe. You can afford to be still. Even in this time of uncertainty, you can allow yourself to have that moment. And this is important more now than ever. Even if that moment is nothing but the breath you took. It will help ground you. It will help calm you. It will bring the stillness that you need for clarity of mind. And it will help you feel okay.
Ask yourself, “Who Am I”?
Think about who you are in the midst of this crisis. In times of uncertainty, in times of crisis, who are you? There is no right or wrong answer to this. An optimist? A realist? A pessimist? An optimist who’s a realist? Someone who’s always self-aware?
Understanding who you are at your core will help you determine what you need. Allow this to help guide you with what you choose to do next. We have found it helpful to have different perspectives in our circle. Find people that you can count on to bring different things to the table.
Yes. It has been a rough year. But can we just HOLD ON and pause for a moment? Can we just look around us to see what we can do? Although we cannot control some of the things that are happening, let's think about the things that we can control. Let’s think about how we can take a stand and move forward. Let’s think about what we can do to make a change. Because we need this change more now than ever. We need to take action. We need to be STRONG. We need to DO BETTER. We have to BE BETTER.
Think about these words, listen to this song, and continue to breathe.
#stophate. Love yourself. Love others. We will make it through if we all come together and make the world shine brighter. Because we are all better together.
